A Journey to Jailsamer

Our company’s founder recently travelled to the historic Jaisalmer Fort in Rajasthan. Known for its majestic architecture and golden sandstone, Jaisalmer Fort, otherwise known as the Golden Fort, is a treasure nestled in the Thar Desert. Christo set off on his Royal Enfield bike through the expansive Thar Desert in northern Rajasthan. Upon arrival, the sight of Jaisalmer Fort was nothing short of breathtaking.

WHEN: 14/12/21
WHERE: Jaisalmer
WHO: Christo

Built in 1156 AD by Rawal Jaisal, the fort is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s largest fully preserved fortified cities.

Strategically located, the fort sits along the ancient silk trading route in northern India near Pakistan. The Silk Road was not a single road but a network of trade routes that stretched over 7,000 kilometres, linking China with the Mediterranean.

Route was named after the lucrative silk trade carried out along its length, although many other goods, including spices, precious stones, textiles, and ceramics, were also traded. As merchants’ wealth grew in Jaisalmer, they invested in the fort’s unique architecture. As the city expanded, it was adorned with lavish havelis and intricately carved temples whose foundations still stand today.
